Working in our Professional Service Team, the Technical Consultant (Network and Security) is responsible for consultancy, design, deployment and transition of new and existing network and security services both within Pulsant locations and customer premises, using a range of fixed/wireless networking technologies and associated tooling. T

 

The consultant will work alongside the Sales, Solutions Architects and Project Management to commission small to large scale IT networking solutions within the Profession Service Team.  Key responsibilties will include:

 

Design and commission high quality network and security solutions that meet Pulsant standards and fulfils the requirements of Pulsant’s customer.

  • Assist and advise customers, sales and solutions architects, providing subject matter expertise at each stage of design, deployment and support process.
  • Contribute towards project or bid design and other written deployment/pre-deployment documentation.
  • Carry out network audits for customers providing insight and recommendations as to health, deployment standards and best practice.
  • At both Pulsant Data Centres and customer premises carry out infrastructure installation including (but not exclusive to) network solutions.
  • Review and critique documentation produced by colleagues and 3rd parties.
  • Provide mentoring support and deliver training to less experienced members within the team and to the wider Company.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies in relation to your role and work with internal Pulsant propositions team to introduce new products
  • Develop discipline led process and procedures
  • Gain and maintain core vendor accreditations

 

Skills & Background

Experience of:

  • Complex networks and Data Centre network architectures.
  • Working within an ISP or Telco environment.
  • Using service provider level Cisco routing/switching equipment, F5 NLBs, Juniper routers.
  • Enterprise routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and EIGRP, ideally in ISP networks.
  • MPLS technologies in SP networks including following protocols and products: L2VPNs, L3VPNs, MPLS-TE.
  • Enterprise NG Firewall (Cisco/Juniper/FortiNET/Checkpoint) design and deployment, incorporating IPSEC and SSL protocols.
  • Network technologies, including HSRP/VRRP/GLBP, STP/RSTP/MSTP, Dot1q, QinQ, LAG/LACP, MTUs, CAM, ARP, CDP.
  • CAT5 and fibre cabling and Data Centres cabling management.
  • Data Centres network monitoring including SNMP and Syslog protocol
